London Olympics? August 16, 2008

I emailed Daisy a few days ago with the possibility of going to different places instead of Seattle. I just got off the phone with her and she expressed her desire to attend the London Olympics in 2012. This is a great possibility of course we are still in the planning stage and we don’t know for sure. Chicago might host the ones in 2016 if they do what would be the point of going to the ones in London…just saying. Anyway I have to do laundry and eat breakfast.

Necessity vs. Luxury
On trips you have to decide where to draw the line –what’s a necessity and what’s a luxury. You also need a budget –preferably a rational budget– and you need to stick to it. For example the following is my guess-timate on what is rational.
Food Expenses: I say spending daily shouldn’t exceed by any means $50.
“Grocery shopping in Seattle wouldn’t be a bad idea either; Fast food is also an option but getting fat isn’t a good idea. It would be really funny if you came back 20 pounds heavier!!” -Julie Anne (ThankYou)
The average fast-food meal is $6 dollars, saying we eat fast-food 3 times a day it will be average $20. Of course we won’t be eating fast-food all the time so when I say food cost for the entire trip will average $300+(per person) it’s a complete and utter guess-timate.
Transportation Expenses: (Besides Airfare or Busfare) $4-8 per day. Medians we can use are monorail, city buses, taxis and walking.
Luxury Expenses: I would say around $200 dollars for the entire trip. Including tickets to aquariums and parks.
Activities to do.
Okay after it’s all said and done what do we do when we get there?
Space Needle! DUH! How can you go to Seattle without checking out the view at the Space Needle?!?
Pike Place Market! I saw a tour of what it has to offer and it sounds interesting something definitely worth seeing.
Ferries. Sounds expensive.
Seattle Aquarium, Argosy Cruises Seattle Harbor Tour, Pacific Science Center, Woodland Park Zoo and the Museum of Flight OR Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum. This is an easy heck yes but transportation is not clear yet you can get in to all these for under 50 dollars. Steal? I think so but things are not planned out that perfectly…yet
The Seattle Waterfront of course!
Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour
“After the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, the city was rebuilt over the top of the ruins. This guided tour takes visitors through the hidden subterranean passages that once were the main roadways and storefronts of old downtown Seattle and tells stories of the frontier people who lived and worked there.“
You know it!
Airfare, Hotel Stay…Money Money Money! August 14, 2008

Seattle as most of you know is where I want to live it’s also where we are headed for after high school. Daisy G. Daisy M. and I have been planning a trip to Washington after High School. We are planning to take it around December 2010 or January 2011 –I know its two years away. This blog is just the estimate amount of money to get there, have a place to stay, and get back to San Diego.
These following estimates are if we take a flight and stay at a hotel for 14-nights through an agency. This does not include food, transportation to other places or luxury expenses.
Best Travelocity Package: $1500 for 3 roundtrip tickets and a 14-night stay at a value hotel –$717 per person. The hotel of course is nothing fancy but we don’t mind –do we Daisies?
Best Expedia Travel Package: $2535 for 3 roundtrip tickets and a 14-night stay at Best Western –$845 per person. Personally I find this to be a good deal. This deal with Best Western Includes: Full Breakfast, Free High-Speed Internet, and a free shuttle from and to the airport. The only down side to this is that its 15 miles from downtown Seattle but that goes for the Travelocity Hotel as well.
Without any Travel Agency both tickets and hotel booked separately.
Round Trip Flight: $400 per person.
Round Trip Greyhound: $300 per person (With two transfers both to and from)
Hotel: $81.31 per night. $1,200 (averaged out) –$400 per person. (For a two Full bed hotel room)
Hostel: $30 per night. $210 for 1 week per person. One week? You may ask, well if we stay at a hostel, most hostels have a limit of booking nights. Most say you can only book 7 continuous days and that’s it. Sure a hostel is cheap but since we want to stay for 14 days we won’t have a place to stay for an entire week. Cheap in this case translates to limitations.
